wbu terms of service
Version 1.0. In force from 2 November 2026.
Please read these terms. They are the agreement between you and us. A short summary for 13 to 17 year olds is at the end.
1. Who we are
These terms are between you and Hasinc Ltd, trading as wbu ("wbu", "we", "us"). Email: hello@wbu-app.com.
They cover the wbu app and anything we provide through it. Our privacy policy explains how we use your data. It is not part of these terms, but we follow it.
2. What wbu is, and what it is not
- wbu is a diary and a way to share how you feel with people you choose.
- wbu is not a medical or mental health service. It does not diagnose, treat, monitor or assess anyone. It does not look for signs of anything in what you write. Nothing in wbu is medical advice or professional advice, and it is not a replacement for a doctor or a qualified professional.
- wbu is not an emergency service. "I'm not OK" is a button you press. It sends an alert to the people you choose. The app never contacts anyone for you. It does not contact emergency services, and it does not send anything because of what you write. We cannot promise the people you choose will see an alert, when, or what they will do. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 (UK).
- Lila is an AI, not a person. She is not a professional and cannot give you advice about your health. She does not know how you are. She never sends anything for you and never tells anyone what you write. She is not for emergencies.
- The summaries people receive are written by AI. They may be wrong or miss something, and they are not your exact words. A voice note is different. It is your own recording, sent whole.
- Free support lines are on our support page and in the app. We try to keep them correct, but please check them if you can.
3. Who can use wbu
- You must be at least 13. wbu is in family beta in the UK. If we open in other countries, some will have a higher minimum age, and we will say so. If you are under the minimum age, you may not create an account.
- Be honest about your age. If we learn you are under the minimum age, we will close your account and delete your data.
- One account per person. Your account is tied to your phone number. If you lose that number you may lose access.
- If you are under 18, you can use wbu on your own. A parent or carer does not have to agree, and we do not tell them when you link with someone. A parent or carer can only see what you choose to share with them.
4. Your account, your content and your choices
- Your entries are yours. You give us permission only to store them and use them to run wbu for you. That includes sending the parts you tick to an AI service to write a summary, sending a voice note to the people you tick if you choose one, and (if you choose Talk it through with Lila) sending that entry and chat to the AI service. We do not sell your entries. We do not use them to train AI models.
- Sharing is your choice. "Just for me" is the starting choice every time. You pick who gets which parts. You can take back a part later, and it leaves the summary on the next refresh. The person is not told. You can choose to send a voice note instead of a summary. The whole recording then goes to everyone you ticked.
- Other people's information. Only write about other people in a way that is fair to them. Do not share anything you have no right to share. Take extra care with voice notes, which are heard word for word.
- Your photo. If you add a profile photo, you must have the right to use it. Do not use someone else's photo, or anything sexual, violent or hateful.
- Deleting. You can delete your account at any time. Hold to delete, then confirm with Face ID or your passcode. You can undo it for 7 days. After that it is gone. People you were linked with stop seeing it and are not told. If you unlink or block someone, we delete what was shared between you.
- A copy of your data. There is no download in the app. Email hello@wbu-app.com and we will send you a copy, free of charge, within one month.
- We may close accounts that break these terms, are used to cause harm, or are created by fraud. We will warn you first where it is safe to do so.
5. Linking and sharing with others
- You link with someone by phone number. Both of you must accept. Until then, nothing is shared. Only accept requests from people you know.
- If you share a check-in with someone who has not accepted yet, it is held for up to 7 days and sent only if they accept. Otherwise it stays private. Link requests also expire after 7 days. We never text or message people ourselves. If you send an invite, you send it from your own phone. Do not send invites to people who have not asked for one.
- To link you type a number or pick one contact in your phone's own picker. wbu never reads your address book.
- A Free account can link with one person. Pro can link with more. A circle has 3 to 12 people and starts once 3 people have joined. Circle owners approve joins and removals.
- You can unlink, block, mute or report at any time. We do not tell the other person.
6. Comments, reactions and respectful use
- A person you share with can send a reaction or a short comment (up to 140 characters; no links, pictures, attachments or mentions). If you are under 18, written replies in your own words are off by default. You can switch them on or off in Settings. Comments can be seen only by the people the entry went to. You can mute, block or report from the comments.
- Before a written reply is sent, your phone checks it for abusive or sexual words and for contact details. A blocked reply is not sent, not kept and not reported. The check does not look at feelings or sad words.
- Voice notes are not checked before they are sent. Only send a voice note you are happy for the people you ticked to hear in full. If a voice note you receive is abusive, report it.
- Seen ticks. If they are on, the people you share with can see when you have seen what they shared, and you can see theirs. You can turn them off in Settings. Then neither of you sees ticks. Not opening something, or opening it late, is never a reason to pressure anyone.
- You must not use wbu to harass, bully, threaten, pressure or scare anyone; to share anything illegal; to pretend to be someone else (including with their photo); to contact someone who has blocked you; to ask for or share sexual content; to contact a child in a way that is unsafe or inappropriate; to promote self-harm; to collect people's phone numbers; or to spy on or control another person.
- Nobody should be made to link, share or reply. If someone pressures you, you can say no, unlink, block or report.
- Muting. If someone mutes your replies, you may be shown "Sent" even though the reply is not delivered. We do this so that muting is quiet and safe for the person who muted.
- Reports. Apart from the check above, we do not read comments, entries or summaries, look at photos or listen to voice notes to look for rule-breaking. We act on reports. If you report something, a person at wbu reads what you send us, including a copy of the reply you reported. Nothing happens automatically. We may warn, restrict or close accounts. We may tell the authorities if the law requires it or to protect someone from serious harm. Report a problem in the app, or email hello@wbu-app.com.
7. "I'm not OK"
- It is a separate button you press on purpose. wbu never sends it for you and never decides that you should.
- You must unlock the app before an alert can be sent. This is so that it is you who presses it.
- It goes to the people you pick. Your emergency contacts, chosen in Settings, are ticked for you at the start. Nobody else is ticked.
- When someone gets your alert, they can call or text you only if the two of you already had each other's numbers. Otherwise they can reply in the app with a preset message.
- If your phone is offline, wbu keeps trying and shows you the status. We cannot guarantee delivery (for example if notifications are off, or the other person's phone is switched off).
- "I'm not OK" is free for everyone, always. It is never behind a paywall.
- It is not a request for emergency help. See section 2.
8. Subscriptions
wbu is in family beta and nothing can be bought yet. This section takes effect when subscriptions go on sale in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Prices are the ones planned for the UK launch and may change before then.
Free, forever: "I'm not OK", voice check-ins, your private diary, one connection, and sharing with that person. Free accounts see the last 7 days, and older entries are deleted automatically.
Pro (UK prices, VAT included):
- Weekly: £0.99 for your first week, then £6.99 a week.
- Yearly: £39.99 a year (that is £3.33 a month).
- Pro gives you your full history from the day you subscribe, unlimited one-to-one connections, splitting an entry between several people, Talk it through with Lila, the weekly recap and the extra streak tools. There is no monthly plan.
- The first-week price is an introductory offer, available once per person under the store's own rules.
Circles, per person (UK prices, VAT included):
- Weekly: £0.99 for your first week, then £1.49 a week.
- Yearly: £29.99 a year (that is £2.50 a month).
- People under 18 can buy the yearly seat only.
- A circle has 3 to 12 people. It starts once 3 people have joined. Below 3 it pauses for 14 days.
- Seats are paid by the circle owner, or each member pays their own. The owner gets Pro included once 2 or more seats are paid.
- Circle members follow the Free history rule.
- If you already pay for Pro and start a circle, cancel Pro yourself in your store account. We cannot do it for you.
- If a seat lapses, it never changes who receives an "I'm not OK" alert.
How it will work.
- You will buy through the Apple App Store or Google Play. They take the payment and send us only whether your subscription is active.
- Before you pay, you will see the price you will be charged, how often, and the price it renews at, in the same place. Example: "£0.99 for your first week, then £6.99 a week."
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the standard price, until you cancel. A seasonal or introductory offer applies to the first term only.
- To cancel, go to your Apple ID subscriptions or Google Play subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep what you paid for until the period ends. Deleting your wbu account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel in your store account.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms. wbu cannot see your payment or refund store purchases. Ask the store: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google Play under Payments and subscriptions. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have by law, including any right to cancel a digital service within 14 days. The stores explain how that works when you start using a service straight away.
- If Pro ends: Pro features stop. You see your last 7 days. We keep the entries you made on Pro until you delete your account, and show them again if you subscribe again. Entries you make while on Free follow the 7-day rule. You can ask us to delete the older entries, or send you a copy of them, at any time by email.
- Price changes. We will tell you before a renewal price changes. You can cancel before it does. The stores' rules also apply.
- Under 18. Purchases are made through your store account and may need a parent's approval under the store's rules. We do not take payment outside the stores.
- Prices in other countries are shown in the store in local currency, with tax where required.
9. Using the app
- Do not copy, reverse-engineer, interfere with or overload wbu, or try to get around its limits or security.
- Do not use bots, scripts or fake numbers to make accounts or send codes. We may block numbers or regions to stop fraud.
- We may change or stop features. We will give notice of changes that matter. "I'm not OK" will not be paywalled.
- We work to keep wbu running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free.
10. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and your legal rights as a consumer.
- We provide wbu with reasonable care and skill, and digital content that is as described and of satisfactory quality. If it is not, you may have legal rights and remedies, for example a repair, a replacement or a price reduction.
- Subject to that, we are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, for events outside our control (including mobile networks, notifications that do not arrive, and store outages), or for what other users say or do.
11. Our brand and software
wbu, its design and its software belong to Hasinc Ltd or its licensors. We have applied to register "wbu: what about you" as a UK trade mark (application UK00004461716, pending). You may not use our name or logo as your own. Open-source parts of wbu are licensed under their own licences.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect a change in the law or in how wbu works. We will tell you in the app before important changes apply. If you do not agree, you can stop using wbu and delete your account. If you keep using wbu after the change applies, you accept it, unless the law says we need your consent again.
13. Law and disputes
- English law applies, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring claims in your local courts. This does not remove any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
- Please complain to us first at hello@wbu-app.com. We will reply within a reasonable time.
14. Store terms
Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for wbu. Apple's standard licensed application end-user terms (or Google's equivalent) also apply when you get wbu from their store.
