wbu privacy, in plain English (for 13 to 17 year olds)
Version 1.0. In force from 2 November 2026.
This is the short version of our full privacy policy. If they ever seem different, the full one counts.
Who we are: Hasinc Ltd, trading as wbu. Questions? Email hello@wbu-app.com.
The big idea
What you write in wbu is yours. It is just for you unless you decide to share it. Nobody can tell your private entries are there.
What you can count on
- Nothing is shared unless you choose it. "Just for me" is the starting choice every time.
- Parents and carers. If you link with a parent or carer, they see only what you choose to share with them, your name, your photo if you add one, comments on entries you both got, and (if seen ticks are on) when you have seen what they shared. We do not tell them when you link. We do not show them anything else.
- Your voice stays on your phone, unless you choose to send a voice note. It is turned into words on your phone and the recording is not saved. If you send a voice note, the people you picked hear your whole recording.
- No selling. No AI training. We do not sell your entries. We do not use them to teach AI.
- No ads and no tracking in wbu right now. If that ever changed, we would tell you first and ask where the law says we have to.
- No location. We do not know where you are.
- You are in charge. You can unlink, block, report or delete your account whenever you like.
- Want a copy of your stuff? There is no download button. Email hello@wbu-app.com. It is free, and we will reply within a month.
What we keep, and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | To sign you in and let people you know link with you. Other people never see it. |
| Your name (the one you pick) | So people you link with know it is you |
| Your birthday | To check you are old enough. We keep it locked (encrypted) until you delete your account. |
| Your entries (what you write or say, how you feel, who you shared with) | To be your diary and to share what you choose |
| The AI summary that goes to the people you picked | So they can read a gentle version |
| A voice note, only if you choose to send one | So the people you picked can hear you. Kept locked, and deleted with the entry. |
| Your comments and reactions | So you can answer what someone shares |
| Seen ticks | So people know you have seen what they shared. You can turn them off. |
| Your photo, only if you add one | So people you are linked with know it is you. It is never public. |
| Your streak | Only you see it |
How sharing works
- You write or say how you feel.
- You pick who it is for. You can tick only some parts.
- For the parts you ticked, an AI writes a gentle summary for that person. It is not your exact words. We ask if that is OK the first time. Or you can send a voice note instead. Then they hear everything you said, and it does not go to the AI.
- They see the summary (or hear your note). They can react or comment. Only people the entry went to can see comments. You can mute, block or report from there.
- Parts you did not tick are not sent to the AI.
- Seen ticks: a grey tick means delivered. A green tick means seen. It works both ways. You can turn it off in Settings.
Short written replies are off for under-18s until you switch them on in Settings. Before a reply is sent, your phone checks it for rude or sexual words and for phone numbers or links. If it is blocked, it just does not send. Nobody sees it.
Lila
Lila is an AI. She is not a person. Talk it through with Lila is a Pro feature, and it is your choice. When you use it, the entry you are talking about and your chat are sent to an AI service to power Lila. We ask you first, on a separate screen. Lila never sends anything for you and never tells anyone what you write. She has a Memory, but it is off unless you turn it on, and you can see and delete everything she remembers.
If you write to Lila about hurting yourself, she replies with a short message that points you to the raised-hand button and free support. wbu does not flag you or tell anybody.
How long we keep things
- Free: you can see the last 7 days. Older entries are deleted automatically.
- Pro: we keep your entries from the day you start. If Pro ends, we keep the entries you made on Pro until you delete your account. You will only see the last 7 days, and the rest comes back if you get Pro again. You can ask us to delete them.
- Delete whenever you want: Settings, then Delete account. Hold the button, then use Face ID or your passcode. You can undo it for 7 days. After that your stuff is deleted.
- Backups clear within 7 days.
"I'm not OK"
This button sends a message to the people you pick. We do not watch for it and we never send it for you. Only you press it. wbu is not an emergency service, and we cannot promise someone will see it. If you are in danger, call 999. Our support page has free helplines. In the UK, Childline is free on 0800 1111.
If something goes wrong
- Someone is bothering you? Block them or report them. A real person at wbu reads reports. Nothing happens automatically. They will not be told it was you.
- Someone is pressuring you to share? You can say no, unlink or block. Nobody should make you share.
- Data questions: email hello@wbu-app.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Your rights
You can ask to see your data, get a copy, fix it, delete it, move it, or take back a "yes" you gave. For a copy, email hello@wbu-app.com. It is free, and we reply within a month. We will send a code to your wbu phone number to check it is you. To delete your account or take back a "yes", go to Settings. If you take back permission for us to keep your diary, we delete your diary and close your account, because we cannot keep a diary without keeping it.
If you are younger than 13
You cannot have a wbu account yet. We will be here when you are old enough.
Other people in your entries
If you write about a friend or family member, that is about them too. Only share what feels fair to them. With a voice note, they hear everything you said.
